Special Giveaway

It's been a strange kind of day. I spent the first part of the morning finishing off my 2010/11 accounts and taxes - there's nothing like a deadline with a £100 penality for missing it to concentrate the mind! I then had an hour or so before I was due down at Ben's school to talk to his class  - more of that tomorrow - and I had planned to spend that working on a commission but then the electricity went off. Today is the second time in just over a week that we've had a power cut. The first one started while I was picking Ben up from school and lasted until gone 10pm, and the whole of our area of Southampton was out, not sure why. Thankfully our stove runs on gas so I was still able to cook the boys their tea by candle light, and Ben thought it was brilliant! Today's power cut was caused by workmen cutting through a cable. It didn't last for long, but it was long enough to stop me working before visiting the school. So, what's a girl to do in her workshed when she can't make jewellery? Why, rearrange and tidy up the shed of course, completely ignoring the fact that it's raining and she can't put things outside out of the way! I've been meaning to take a book shelf we don't need anymore out of the dining room and use it to house my ever-growing book collection. The original, smaller bookshelf has been turned on it's side and put under the table my photostudio set up is on to try and organise my "I'll just put it there for a little while" area properly. Everyone has one of those, don't they, a place where everything that you haven't quite organised a home for yet is put, just for a little while until you get round to it? Please tell me that it's not just me! I gave the rest of the shed a bit of a tidy too, and came back from school feeling organised and raring to go!

From chaos to some kind of organisation. Any bets on how long it will stay this tidy?!

Anyway, I promised a giveaway earlier in the week and meant to include it in my 500th post yesterday, but it's probably a good job I forgot as trying to run a challenge and a giveaway in one post would have only got me confused! I've been thinking about what to give away - jewellery or clasps? And if jewellery, earrings or pendant? Too many choices! In the end, I thought I'd let you decide, and so I'm giving away a voucher, and the winner can decide whether they would like to spend it on my Daisychain Jewellery website or in my Daisychain Extra shop.

So, does anyone fancy a chance to win a £20 voucher?

To enter, all you need to do is leave a comment on this post before the end of this Sunday, 22nd January. Tell me what you'd like to organise better in your work area, whether it's a separate room, a corner of the dining room table (that's where I started!) or a set of storage boxes piled up in the corner. What would you have in your ideal work space? To get a second chance at winning blog, facebook or tweet about my giveaway and leave me another comment telling me that you've done that. I'll post the winner next Monday!

I'm looking forward to hearing about your ideal workareas, and remember, you've only got until midnight GMT on Sunday! Good luck!

  4. I too was compelled to do my tax, at least mine is sort of straight forward. Was annoyed that they insisted I paid the 15p that I owed them yet last year they declined to give me the 46p rebate. Hhhmmmm sorry to here about the power cuts at least you have your lovely fire to keep warm.

  5. The chance of winning a voucher yes please. I would love to choose something from your shop. As for organising my space I think what I need is the time and motivation to do it! A set of shelves at the right height would be a start.

  6. I would of course love a chance to win a voucher for your extra shop! As for organising, I would really like to organise my brain a bit better so that I didn't drag half my life around with me whenever I want to bead on the go! I would love a work space in our living room, as I like that I can sit with helen and the bunnies when I work. The living room is due for a bit of a furniture shuffle so I'm hoping I can get a small table and chair when I can work, without making a giant mess on the sofa every time I start beading!

  7. I'd love to have a chance at the voucher :) As far as organization goes, I don't think any part of my house *is* organized, or ever has been! My priority right now though is clearing out my mix of polymer clay canes from the 'mess' box.

  8. Hmmm.... that reminds me that I have a tax deadline to meet. Hope I haven't missed it! I guess that means that getting my paperwork in order (or better yet, getting an intern to do it for me ;-) would be ideal. This year I at least put things (mostly) into files by type of paperwork, so there will be less dashing around looking for things (she things, optimistically!).

    Enjoy the day, Miss Jo!

  9. Since my work space is in a corner of my beadroom, I have a major problem with clothes (clean and dirty) encroaching. I really need to get that straightened up....

  10. Oh yes please! I would just like more space to be able to see all my beautiful beads!

  11. Would love to organize the "I'll just put it there for a minute spot, then put it up" area of my desk!

  12. I'm constantly reorganizing my work area. I have a three corner desk with one corner being my computer (and apparently main work area ) and the rest housing shelves, containers and trays. Despite this... it's the spot beneath the desk that needs the organizing >.< lol I have three quarters filled with bins and bags of 'just for a little while' stuff... and every time I stretched my legs out under my desk, I end up kick something.. and it's not always one of the cats ;) lol

  13. It's so interesting to hear that you have the same problem like me- putting things back.

Last weekend I just organized my work space that I like to call my STUDIO.

It is so neat now that I am scared to play there with my beads. A stern me inside alerts the creative playful me - LEAVE IT JUST THE WAY YOU FOUND IT.

Any way, that is my goal now. Also I want to get into the closet to get rid of some stuff.

You have beautiful jewelry . It would be a great honor for me to have a chance to keep a piece from your shop . Thank you for the give away. Dita.

  14. Everything in my basement bead room needs to b better organized. I have had trouble finding a good way for me to do it since I mostly sit at the dining room table upstairs when I am working. I have just tried new size storage boxes and think they might be the thing for me :)

  15. I have shared this on my blog and on both my private page on Facebook and my jewelry page.

  16. I keep tidying up my work area. I keep tidying it all the time but it seems that there is of no help. I would love to have more drawers and some shelves. That would help.

  17. My current studio is our dining room table. We don't use it, but still its a bit small for a studio. I'd love to have a larger room with a long rugged work bench and great lighting.

And yes I would love to win!

  18. I would find a better place to organize my books and booklets other than beneath the computer on a narrow shelf :-) On my way to post on FB

I need to organize my dining room, which is my design center:>D

  20. I just need to switch off the internet and get tidying!I've got all the bags of paperwork under my desk too...At least there is no computer in my lampworking shed, so I get on with making in there!

  21. Oh goodness, well, my "studio" is a corner of our bedroom... it is a mess.. I just don't have enough storage and my work space is actually the fold up table I use for shows, so everything I have needs to be able to move when I need it. I would love to get more organized! I also have one of those temporary spots... several actually. I have sort of trays where I put works in progress and then I have a bin where I throw things when I am done with them until I finally get them put away... it is a bit of a mess LOL. I would love to be entered into your giveaway, your work is lovely!

  22. Living in Japan there is no shortage of organization items. I've bought trays, bins & file holders that really helps, but I'm not very creative without spreading my things out in front of me. So in my studio which is a folding table in my bedroom I have on going projects bits in trays. I also have a "to sort" area. It started as one bin & is now an entire "junk room." Oh and throw my name in the hat for the voucher please. Wishing all who read this a lovely uncluttered day.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Oh I am so glad that I'm not the only one with a "must sort soon" area! You're all making me feel much better about my clutter! Erin, keeping paperwork in order is an aim of mine as well this year too.

Thank you for all the lovely comments!

  24. I am clearing my space is well and have been putting beads in glass vases and jars so I can see them and they are decorative. I will be creating some new pieces from things that need to be put away, it should be fun to see what comes together. Beautiful work, would love a chance to win some new goodies

  25. I would like to clear my dining table and put everything away nice and tidy.

  26. What a great give away -- thank you!! I have things pretty well organized with beads in lots of bins on shelves.....just don't seem to put things away when I'm done :( Would be great to have one of those architectural kind of file cabinet with the flat drawers so my collection of handmade papers would be handy.

  27. I may need the help of a professional organizer! Yes it is that bad! Your designs are beautiful!

  28. I would love to win a gift certificate from you. I need to organize and tidy my beads. A lot of times I just leave them out so I can enjoy them then when I want to use it I can't find it in the see of beads on my table.

  29. I would like to figure out a way to organize all of my hand made components so that they are easily accessible. Same thing with all of my gemstone and glass beads. I've got so many that it is getting harder and harder to have them readily available so that I can even remember what I have.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I'd love to win this! Thanks for having the giveaway!

  31. Organization?? Once I have my space organized, it goes by the wayside if I'm involved in a project...I tend to move on without putting away the beads from the previous project so it turns in to mass chaos before long. The cycle keeps going... :-)
Jo, thank you for the chance to win such a nice give away! Have a nice weekend!

  32. Thanks for the giveaway! Hmm, organization...not my forte when it comes to beadiness! Everything needs help!

  34. I would love to win a voucher for either of your shops.

I organised my bead stash last week, so I have small beads in stackable pots, and large beads in jam jars. Yet somehow I still need to clear space on my desk before I can work. So if I could change my workspace, I'd want shelves above the desk. Oh, and better light too *looks out of the small window at a grey, rainy sky*

  36. Hello! I would love to win a voucher, your work is amazing!

I am still at the "corner of dining room table" stage. My beads are stored together with my three-year-old son's art and craft stuff, with the result that he thinks the beads are for him too and tries to "help" at every opportunity (bless him). What I would really like to organise is all the paper stuff which has accumulated remarkably quickly - magazines, catalogues, receipts etc - which are currently in one ginormous pile in the corner of the dining-room. And I would like better light!

    ReplyDelete
  37. having all my stuff in one room would be a good start!! good lighting would be great too ;)

  38. My clutter has managed to sneak out of my workshop into the dining room! As hard as I try to stay in one spot, I always find myself at the dining room table. I have at least made myself keep all the components on a tray when I am not working. LOL! Thanks for the inspiration to organize.

  39. I have a studio area on the lower level of the house. There I have beads, polymer clay, PMC clay, and metal working supplies. But I tend to work mostly in seed beads and these projects I carry around on display trays lined with bead mats. My husband gets a little lonely when I'm tucked away in a far corner of the house so I usually bead somewhere near where he is studying or prepping for classes.

I would like to set up my work area so that I can grab what I need from containers on shelves. right now my non-seed bead beads are a jumbled mess. I've seen how Lori Anderson keeps her beads in clear trays in a cabinet and this is my idea of awesome. Next I'd like to set up "stations" so that the various media with which I work had their own little area and I didn't need to constantly set up and put away equipment. Oh to dream!

  40. I'd so love to have a voucher for your lovely shop!!
Everything needs organization where I live -especially piles of books that keep getting taller and taller and of course the endless little boxes, bags and all sorts of containers full of beads, findings and such!!
I need to come up with a functional way of organizing them that doesn't take up too much room...

  42. I'd love to win the voucher! I use my dining room table for making jewelry. My husband and I have had to eat in the living room with plates on our laps for over a year! I have a huge pile of stuff that needs to be reworked or torn apart because I didn't like the look of the design, or the way it turned out.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Unfortunately my husband and I share a small space in the garage, so ideally I'd like to kick him out! Then at least I would have to deal with his clutter as well, LOL!
I'm pretty good about putting my tools away but then I leave snips of wire and metal and beads all over. It really would be so easy to just take care of that stuff before it gets out of control.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I would love to get more storage containers for my beads, I also would love to have a desk with some overhead storage and a bulletin board for tacking inspirational pics and color combos I want to try and I would like to have some drawers in the desk to stash stuff like tools
I like to work in my kitchen as it is more in the mainsream of things and since I am a people person- not sure I could work by myself but a work space in the family room- oh yeah

  45. I've tweeted your giveaway on both my kbeading and Karyn_Barnes Twitter accounts cos I would so love to win your voucher.
My plan for the new year is to move my beading supplies out of the tiny cupboard in the dining room and reclaim shelf space from my two girls - their toys can move into their rooms. This way I will have all my beads and tools to hand next to the work desk. I'm also trying to teach the girls the concept of hot-desking - we all clear everything off the desk and put our things away so that it is clear for the next person to use. Wish me luck!

  46. I just moved, so my entire jewelry studio is packed in boxes. I will need to organize an entire room! The new studio space is challenging; one wall is floor to ceiling windows, the second is wall to wall closets, the third is covered in floor to ceiling mirrors and the fourth wall is blank (thank goodness).

  47. I am turning a 16 x 16 room in my lower level into my art room. I am so excited! And boy does it need to be organized! I hope to win the voucher!

  49. I have about 1/2 a spare bedroom, that I share with my hubby-to-be. It's also where I do my classwork, so I'd like to create some sort of organization between the two disciplines, rather than craft stuff all mixed up with my school stuff in the same drawer!

    ReplyDelete
  50. I share my workspace with my husband. We have separate desks, but most of my beads are stacked in plastic containers. I would love to have the room to make everything accessible.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I have an entire bedroom for my craft room but there is almost no organization. I would need to take everything out, buy stuff and redo. Next house the master bedroom will be my craft room and I'll just use the small room for my bedroom.

  53. Hi! I just recently organized my office space which is a very small area. Alot has spilled over to my bedroom so my goal is to organize some shelving in a corner of my room. :)

  54. Lori Anderson, thank you for introducing me! Looks like I made the deadline with 40 minutes to spare!

  55. I posted your site on my facebook wall (Mona Baroody). By the way, I'd love to organize my studio with new containers that keep out spiders and dust, but still allow me to see my materials. I'd also love a way to see my visual inspirations and color ideas that are stronger reminders and provide more encouragement.

  56. I would love to have a larger work area but I am thankful for the space I do have currently. It would be great to have a wall full of shelves and peg board to be able to organize the beads and supplies I have by color. I would love to have my work area organized like an actual bead store.

  57. Some kind of shelves/shelving unit with little boxes/storage bins, preferably clear to organize and see everything better. Especially beads and findings. Then perhaps some hangers for my wire and tools.
